A television viewer had complained that the studio decor during the interview with the tennis player was kept in the blue hue of Federer’s new shoe “The Roger”. “Where is the line between public service and self-interest,” wrote the viewer, as the ombudsman announced in his final report on Tuesday.
In its statement, the writing in charge highlighted the “extraordinary situation of the interview”. Because the talk with Federer and the triathlete Nicola Spirig had to take place in the same studio and right next to the already permanently installed decoration of the footwear brand for reasons of time.
The team tried not to show the shoes on display and the decorative parts of the brand in the image, if possible. Unfortunately, it was only after the interview that it turned out that it had not been possible to hide the details of the shoe.
The subsequent pixelation of the logo was not considered enough either. However, Redaass stated that no agreements had been made between SRF and Federer and that no cash flows had occurred.
In his opinion, the ombudsmen recognize the “special circumstances” of the filming. But by law, the overall impression is decisive. And this was “heavily influenced” by the company logo. The explanations given by the editors could not have justified “ignoring the legal requirements”.
