Former ski racer Doris De Agostini from Ticino died at the age of 62 after a brief serious illness. This was reported by the Swiss Ski Association on Sunday.
The Airolo downhill specialist competed in the World Cup between 1976 and 1983 and won a total of eight races. De Agostini participated in the Olympic Games twice in Innsbruck in 1976 and in Lake Placid in 1980 and won the bronze medal in downhill at the 1978 World Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
In 1983, at the age of just 25, she resigned at the top, as the winner of the Downhill World Cup. This last season, De Agostini won the Val d’Isère, Schruns and Les Diablerets races. In 1983 she was also voted Swiss Sportsman of the Year.
