The following applies on Swiss roads: the new rules will come into force on 1.1.2021!

[ad_1]

Several new traffic regulations will come into effect on January 1, 2021, increasing safety and making traffic flow more smoothly. Also, new regulations for driving license will apply from 2021. We have listed them.

We have summarized you:

Motorized traffic:

Rack for elimination of lanes and access to highways

When removing lanes, the zip system is now mandatory. This applies where the lanes end: for example, when changing from three to two lanes, in an accident or on a construction site. Drive in both lanes until the lanes are cleared. There, each road user in the next lane allows a road user to pass in front of him from the dismantled lane using the principle of zipper closure. Motorists have to let vehicles enter from the eliminated lane. This is to avoid a change to the remaining lane too early when lane dismantling occurs, as is often the case today. So that traffic flows better. However, drivers of inward turning vehicles cannot force space; The rack system now also applies to slow traffic when entering the highway. Failure to comply with the zipper principle will be penalized with a fine.

Rescue alley

An emergency lane must now be cleared for emergency vehicles on highways, even when traffic is only moving at a pace. This also applies if no blue light vehicle can be seen or heard. On two-lane roads, the salvage lane must be formed between the two lanes; on three-lane highways, always between the far left and middle lanes. Failure to respect the rescue lane will result in a fine.

Passing right

The right-hand drive law still applies on highways. If a column has formed in the left lane (or in the left and / or middle lane in the case of three-lane highways), road users can pass into the right lane with the necessary caution, even if a right column has not yet formed. However, overtaking on the right (turning into the right lane and turning left) is still prohibited and will result in a fine.

100 km / h for light trailer trains

Anyone towing a trailer with a car or delivery van can now drive at a maximum speed of 100 km / h on highways. The trailer must not weigh more than 3.5 tons and must be suitable for this speed. This also applies to the towing vehicle and the tires. It is advisable to clarify doubts about the maximum speed and weight with the dealer or importer or as part of the inspection of the vehicle at the Road Traffic Office before driving.

New and other motorway traffic regulations are explained in the second expanded edition of the so-called “motorway label” (www.astra.admin.ch/knigge).

Slow traffic

Turn right on red for bikes and mopeds: “Red is red!” This principle still applies. The novelty is that cyclists and mopeds can turn right at the red traffic light, as long as it is indicated by a sign with a yellow bicycle and an arrow. Pay attention to pedestrians and crossing traffic as they have right-of-way. If there is no signal at a traffic light, red also applies to bicycles and mopeds.

Primary school children with bikes on the sidewalk: Children up to 12 years old can now use the sidewalk by bike, but only if there is no bike path or bike path. You have to show consideration for pedestrians, because they have right of way.

Bike lanes

New bike lanes can be installed in 30 km / h zones. Vehicles in cycle lanes take precedence over converging roads, that is, the previously applicable legal precedence in Tempo 30 zones does not apply to cycle lanes. Consequently, “Stop” or “No right of way” is indicated on the roads leading to it. Yellow bicycle pictograms on the ground can mark a cycle route, but it is not required. Tempo 30 still applies.

Stationary traffic

The “charging station” symbol will be created for stopped traffic. This can be used to designate parking areas that have a charging station for electric vehicles. Parking spaces with EV charging stations can now be colored green to make charging stations easier to find.

NEW DRIVER CARD REQUIREMENTS

Learning units from age 17

Anyone who acquires the Passenger Car Apprenticeship License on or after January 1, 2021 before the age of 20 must complete a twelve-month learning phase. In order for the driving test to be completed at the age of 18 despite the one-year learning phase, the learner’s license can be issued at the age of 17. The twelve-month learning phase does not apply to people who acquire an apprenticeship license after their 20th birthday.

For motorcyclists

No more direct entry into category A with no restrictions: anyone who wants to ride the most powerful motorcycles must first drive a category A motorcycle limited to 35 kW for at least two years. In the future, direct entry into the strongest motorcycle categories will only be possible for people who are professionally dependent on riding such motorcycles: motorcycle mechanics, police officers and traffic experts.
