February 17th. On this day, the Federal Council will decide how the blockade will continue as of March 1. It had been promised by the Minister of Health, Alain Berset (48). They wanted to give the industries affected by the openings enough time to prepare.
But now Berset is changing gears. Next Wednesday the government will talk about how to proceed, but on February 17 nothing will be decided. This is what Berset told the Francophone daily “La Liberté”: “The Federal Council will determine the direction next week, after which there will be a consultation with the cantons.”
The ‘normal’ procedure
In other words, the state government will not make any decisions to ease the shutdown until February 24. Next Wednesday the Federal Council will only discuss several proposals. Anyone who asks the health department about the reason for this will receive a concise answer: involving the cantons is normal procedure.
However, you could have asked the cantons earlier: short consultations were commonplace in the Corona crisis.
Want to watch for another week
The fact that the Federal Council chooses this path allows two conclusions: first, it wants to give itself more time to observe the development of the pandemic for another week. In particular, watch the development of mutations.
Second: there will be no grand opening. The economy and the population must adapt to this. Because: If the Federal Council wanted to reopen restaurants and shops, it would have to give the industries more time than from Wednesday, February 24 to Monday, March 1 of the following. You need to purchase goods and create to-do lists.

Berset suffers from confinement
However, some treats can be expected for the crown’s weary population, as Berset suggests. “We understand the frustrations and we also want to see reopens.” However, this is associated with risks and requires much more discipline on everyone’s part.
The SP Federal Council also admits to being blocked: “It is very difficult for me to bear these restrictive measures, like all the others,” he said. But the restrictions are necessary to prevent the situation with the new variants of the virus from spiraling out of control, as has been observed in Britain and Portugal. (sf)
