Thousands of people will flock to the Suisse Caravan Salon on the Bernexpo site starting Thursday. According to the organizers, it is probably the largest trade fair in Switzerland since the beginning of the corona pandemic.

The Federal Council makes it possible: in June it declared that trade shows can no longer be generally classified as large events. Therefore, the caravan hall is not subject to the controversial ban on events with more than 1000 visitors that the Canton of Bern issued a few days ago.

7,000 daily tickets can be sold from Thursday to Sunday at the Caravan Salon. About half of the tickets have already been sold out, as announced by the organizers. On Thursday, for example, at least 3,300 people will be running around the site, as many tickets have been sold so far.

YB can receive a maximum of 1000 spectators on the same day next door at the Wankdorf stadium. The same restrictive regulation applies to SC Bern, which plays its games “around the corner” at the Postfinance Arena.

Protection concept as for sporting events

In the caravan salon, a comprehensive protection concept must ensure that visitors feel safe. The hygienic mask is mandatory in the corridors; the organizers recommend wearing a mask outdoors if the minimum distance cannot be maintained. The other provisions also correspond roughly to the known rules of major sporting events.

The number of visitors that will finally come is open. It is less safe than in previous years. In pre-Corona times, up to 18,000 camping and caravan fans gathered every day on Saturdays and Sundays.

In recent months there have been practically no major fairs in Switzerland. The “Pätch”, a kind of replacement fair for Olma in St. Gallen, was an exception. It attracted a total of 16,000 people over six days. The number of visitors was below the allowed amount and also below the expectations of the fair management, as the organizers wrote in a statement.

Camping-Boom thanks Corona

According to media spokesperson Adrian Erni, the Caravan Salon organizers would be happy if they could sell a total of 30,000 tickets this year. In a statement, they note that mobile travel is experiencing an “additional boom” in the days of the Crown.

More than 250 exhibitors present their latest vehicles and a wide range of accessories for those who are hungry to travel in Bern. There is also a support program, reduced due to Corona. For example, mobile home test drives are offered with a driving instructor.
