Snow chaos
The canton road between Seedorf and Bauen buried under an avalanche
On Thursday night, an avalanche rumbled on Seedorf Street. The connection with Bauen / Isenthal is closed, also for pedestrians due to risk.
(zim / AH) Snow chaos in the canton of Uri: An avalanche has buried Seedorf street. The so-called “Fischlauwi” broke at 2,200 meters above sea level and then thundered through the valley at an altitude of 450 meters. The avalanche only stops shortly before Lake Uri. Now the road to Bauen is completely buried by snow masses. The A2 motorway remains open. It is protected in the danger zone with a gallery and fortunately it was not affected.
However, Commander Ivan Albert’s relief is written on his face. The Seedorf fire brigade chief says: “Fortunately, no people or vehicles were buried.” In the middle of the night, at 2 am, the alarm sounded. His team moved immediately and secured the road. In the place are four firefighters and specialists from the canton.
“The road remains closed,” says Albert. “For vehicles and people”. He explains: “At the moment, the risk is too great.” It is still raining in the valley while on the highest mountain Gitschen it is snowing. Due to the danger, the cleanup cannot begin yet. “Where the avalanche happened, the road is now free,” says Albert. “That way more snow can come in.” It is like a slide.
No buildings were damaged either. A resident who lives near the avalanche cone is clearing snow from his parking lot. He’s not impressed: “We’re used to it.” In fact, the “Fischlauwi” has already entered the valley. But that was several years ago.
Now decide the direction of the building. When the street can be cleared and then reopened. Until then, the Isenthal and Bauen communities are isolated.
