If Zurich applied the Swiss standard, the canton would now be a crown risk area. According to the Zurich Health Directorate on Sunday, 56 people had been infected with the Covid-19 virus in the last 24 hours. This has just exceeded the limit that officially makes the canton a risk area.
The so-called seven-day incidence of new corona infections in Zurich has steadily increased since the beginning of August. With 60.03 infections per 100,000 population in the last two weeks, the critical value of 60 was broken. Switzerland places other countries and areas on the quarantine list above this value.
To prevent this number from being exceeded and leading to major economic consequences, the Zurich Governing Council last week decreed the introduction of a mask requirement in stores. Zurich is now threatening to be placed on the overseas quarantine list, which would discourage foreign tourists and business travelers from visiting.
Quarantine recommendation for Belgians
Belgium, for example, has already included the 16 cantons of Appenzell-Ausserrhoden, Basel-Stadt, Freiburg, Geneva, Glarus, Lucerne, Neuchâtel, Schaffhausen, Schwyz, Solothurn, Thurgau, Uri, Valais, Vaud, Zug and Zurich in its list orange.
A ten-day quarantine must be “respected” after returning from these cantons, according to the Belgian authorities, who have already declared that half of Switzerland is the second most dangerous area. A crown test is also recommended for returning Belgians and they should exercise “extra vigilance” in the event of a trip to Switzerland.
Despite the growing number of new infections, the people of Zurich are not at all busy with Covid sufferers. More young people are infected. However, according to experts, it will only be a matter of time before the virus spreads to more older people and the most serious cases are treated. (kes)
