“We have no more time to waste!” The federal president of the SP, Simonetta Sommaruga (60), emphasized the seriousness of the situation yesterday Wednesday. And so he explained the drastic measures that have been applied throughout Switzerland since today. An extensive mask requirement, partly also outdoors; an event limit of 50 people or a private party limit of 10 people.
The Federal Council’s protection package sets strict minimum standards for the cantons. However, they can take even stricter measures in your area. And many cantons have already done so. This also includes the canton of Solothurn, which only massively tightened measures at the beginning of the week. For example, no more than five people can gather in public spaces, there is a maximum limit of 30 people at events, and a mask is required for commercial passenger transport, for example, in taxis.
“The situation in the canton requires that we hold on to these points,” said the SP Government Councilor, Susanne Schaffner (58), in front of the media on Thursday. And not only that, the canton of Solothurn is tightening the screw even more. The following rules also apply on Friday afternoons:
- Bars, discos and sex and erotic shops will remain closed.
- A maximum of 30 guests can be present at the same time at bar operations.
- Take-out and snack bars must be closed between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m.
Measures adopted earlier in the week that go beyond federal requirements also remain in effect:
- There is a maximum limit of 30 people for public events.
- Meetings of more than five people are prohibited in public spaces.
The measures are initially limited to the end of January 2021.
Mask required starting in seventh grade
The measures are also tightening in schools. As of November 2, the mask requirement will also apply to high school students, that is, from the seventh grade.
The implementation of school camps in compulsory school is suspended until the end of January 2021. At the upper secondary level, all school camps and trips within Switzerland will be suspended until Easter 2021 (April 4, 2021). Currently it does not make sense to organize school camps, so the director of education of the FDP, Remo Ankli (47).
Sports lessons are also being adapted at the upper secondary level: contact sports such as soccer are prohibited. Therefore, sports lessons will be based on alternative forms of exercise and teaching from November 2, for example: reduced intensity, outdoor exercise options, theory such as nutrition or training theory, supervised study time . It is mandatory to wear a mask and respect the distance rules.
More intensive care beds
“The situation in the canton of Solothurn is dire,” said health director Schaffner. The number of hospital admissions is increasing significantly. Today, only on Thursday, the canton reported 152 new cases of Covid. There are also 39 Covid patients in the hospital, four of them in the intensive care unit.
That is why hospitals are moving from normal operation to the first level of escalation. Instead of 14, there will be 25 intensive care places with fans in the future. The expansion should take place within five days. Up to 50 beds can be expanded.
Cantonal physician Lukas Fenner (47) emphasized that the trend towards more hospital admissions is increasing disproportionately. “The doubling time is getting shorter and shorter,” says Fenner. “That’s why every day counts.” The measures would have to be applied consistently. It calls on the population to adhere to protection measures. Because the results of today’s measurements will only be seen in two weeks.
Visits must remain possible
The canton is also doing everything in its power to ensure that visits to hospitals, as well as nursing homes and nursing homes, remain possible. But only under certain conditions. From now on, visits to relatives are no longer possible in the rooms. Visits can only take place in defined sectors with the application of strict protection measures.
The bistros and cafes of the residences for the elderly and the elderly will be closed to third parties.
