In addition to the highly contagious crown mutations from Britain and South Africa, there is now a new variant that is causing researchers headaches. In Brazil, a mutation was discovered that may have reinfected people who have already recovered or who have been vaccinated.

The dangerous Brazilian variant is simply called P1. It has its origin in the city of two million Manaus, where it has spread since December. Until now, experts have been hopeful that the city has already achieved herd immunity because three-quarters of the population were infected with Sars-CoV-2.
