40,000 winter sports enthusiasts were asked about 55 ski areas in the Alps as part of the “Best Ski Resort” study. The winner: Zermatt VS! Second place goes to the South Tyrol Val Gardena / Alpe di Siusi ski region, third place is shared by Arosa Lenzerheide GR with last year’s winner Kronplatz (also South Tyrol).
Other top positions of the Swiss ski resorts in the general classification: St. Moritz GR (5th) and Saas-Fee VS (7th). The fact that four Swiss ski areas are represented in the top 10 underscores the dominance of Swiss ski destinations in an alpine comparison.
Also strong in individual categories
This is not the first time that Zermatt has won: after victories in 2014 and 2016, Valais once again took first place.
The Aletsch Arena VS, with the largest glacier in the Alps, is once again the category winner in rest and relaxation areas, as well as rental and service. Laax GR dominates the amusement park and snowboard category.
But that’s not all: Grächen VS wins the category of medium-sized ski area. Especially in the area of offers for children and families, the Valais shows very good satisfaction values.
“For years at the top”
Study author Michael Partel attests to Switzerland’s continued success: “Some ski areas in Switzerland have always been at the top of the overall ranking for years. Proof that these areas are following a successful and consistent process of permanent development, ”he says.
The challenges would not diminish in the future. “But the starting point for continuing to be successful in the competition is certainly very good.” Now only foreign winter sports enthusiasts have to come to Switzerland, despite the Corona crisis. (pbe)
