The support of partners and sponsors was secured and the concept for the implementation of the crown protection measures was launched. 25,000 of the tickets originally sold for the Basel Tattoo in summer could be re-booked for the November event.
However, the continuing uncertainties regarding the major events raised the question from the organizers as to whether the event could even be held successfully. The main reason why the organizers have decided to cancel the “Save the Basel Tattoo” are essentially the following two reasons.
The approval process and international travel restrictions
The approval process by the canton of Basel-Landschaft could start this week at the earliest, as the ruling council’s decision on cantonal requirements is only scheduled for this date. More serious, however, is the fact that a license already granted can be withdrawn from the organizer at any time, depending on the development and assessment of the epidemiological situation and according to the capacities of the canton’s contact markers. However, the business risk remains with the event organizers, which means that they are exposed to a certain arbitrariness and uncertainty in planning.
International travel restrictions and associated quarantine regulations when entering Switzerland and returning to the respective country of origin currently change every week. Gangs from England and Scotland, for example, would have to be quarantined for two weeks when they return. Participants from other countries cannot enter Switzerland, depending on how the situation develops.
With the rescue operation “Save the Basel Tattoo”, they wanted to try to reduce the economic damage so as not to have to claim the support of the federal government and the canton. “Now we were practically frustrated in the final stretch.
