The woman fell in love with a jihadist fighter and tried to travel with him in 2017, as Fedpol writes on its website about the alleged terrorist attack. They detained her at the Turkish-Syrian border and sent her back to Switzerland.

The person suffered from psychological problems and was admitted to a psychiatric institution upon his return to Switzerland, Fedpol wrote. However, he has not appeared in investigations with a terrorist background at Fedpol since 2017.

The attacker overwhelms customers

On Tuesday afternoon, shortly after 2 pm, there was a knife fight in a large department store in Lugano. According to the canton of Ticino police, the alleged perpetrator is a 28-year-old Swiss woman. He attacked two women inside the store, one of them with a knife. One of the victims was seriously injured.

At a press conference on Tuesday evening, both Fedpol director Nicoletta della Valle, who was connected by video, and Ticino cantonal police commander Matteo Cocchi said the woman was known to authorities.

Ticino Prime Minister Norman Gobbi later tweeted more details about the crime in Lugano. Consequently, other customers of the Manor department store overwhelmed the perpetrator immediately after the attack. The Federal Prosecutor’s Office (BA) opened criminal proceedings.
