Last year, Swiss health insurers spent almost 1.5 billion francs on basic insurance administration. They used almost 5 percent of the premium income for salaries, commissions and advertising, as the Moneyland comparison service has calculated.
Most of the expenses of the health insurance funds were due to personnel costs of about 1,100 million francs. That is more than two-thirds of the cost.
49 million in commissions
Health insurers spent a total of about 49 million francs on commissions on basic insurance and 60 million on advertising. According to Moneyland estimates, commissions for supplemental health insurance policies amount to around 500 million francs a year.
However, a comparison of the costs between individual registrations according to Moneyland reveals “huge” differences. Because depending on the fund, between 96 and 573 francs would be spent on administrative expenses per insured.
Not the reason for the premium increase
“The administration and marketing costs are substantial,” says Moneyland CEO Benjamin Manz. Manz points out that the administrative costs of health insurance companies have not been the cause of the increase in premiums in recent years, but rather the increase in health costs. (pbe / SDA)
