To control the large number of corona cases, the federal and state governments will close public life from next Wednesday (December 16) until January 10. The resolutions of Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) and Prime Ministers:
Christmas
More contacts will be possible from December 24 to 26. Depending on their respective infection rates, the federal states should allow meetings with four people outside of their own home during this time. In addition, there are children up to 14 years of age from the closest family circle, that is, spouses, civil partners and partners in an illegitimate society, as well as relatives, siblings, brothers and their respective members of the household, “even if it is more of two households or 5 people over 14 years old means ».
Work, schools and daycare
Employers are urgently being asked to see if businesses can close, either for company vacations or generous home office solutions.
Schools should be closed in principle or compulsory attendance will be suspended. Emergency care is guaranteed and distance education is offered. Separate regulations may apply to graduating classes.
In kindergartens, the procedure is similar to that in schools. There are additional opportunities for parents to take paid leave to care for their children during the mentioned period.

Commerce
Retail will be closed from December 16 to January 10. Exceptions apply to stores that cover daily necessities. These include: supermarkets, weekly markets, pickup and delivery services, beverage markets, health food stores, specialty baby stores; Pharmacies, medical supply stores, drugstores, opticians, hearing aids, gas stations, automobile workshops, bicycle workshops, banks and savings banks, post offices, dry cleaners, laundries, newspaper sales, pet supplies, food markets for animals, sale of Christmas trees and wholesalers.
Religious services
Worship services in churches, synagogues and mosques, as well as meetings of other religious communities, are only allowed if the minimum distance of 1.5 meters can be maintained. It is mandatory to wear a mask in the square, it is forbidden to sing in congregations. If full occupancy is expected, visitors must register.
New Year Eve
The sale of pyrotechnics before New Year’s Eve is generally prohibited. On New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day there is a national ban on attending and gathering, as well as a ban on fireworks in popular places, which are determined by municipalities.
Contact restrictions
Private gatherings are still limited to your own home and another home, but in any case, a maximum of five people. Children up to 14 years old are exempt from this.
Body care service providers
Service companies in the personal care field such as hair salons, cosmetic studios, massage parlors, tattoo studios and similar businesses will be closed.
alcohol
Drinking alcoholic beverages in public places is prohibited. Violations will be fined.
maintenance
Medically necessary treatments, such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy, as well as podiatry / foot care, are still possible.
Special protection measures should be taken for nursing homes and for the elderly, as well as for mobile care services. The federal government supports this with protective medical masks and by assuming the costs of rapid antigen tests.
The federal states will order mandatory tests several times a week for nursing home and senior staff. In regions with a higher incidence, evidence of a current negative corona test will be mandatory for visitors.
