Suddenly BVB coach!
Edin Terzic had only two days to prepare his team for the next serious battle. Tonight (8.30pm), the 38-year-old celebrates his Bundesliga debut and is on the sidelines for the first time as a manager.
On Saturday, in the 1: 5 debacle against Stuttgart, he was assistant coach to Lucien Favre (63) on the bench. Then the BVB bosses pull the tightrope, fire the French-speaking Swiss after two and a half years, and at the same time promote Terzic. At least until the end of the season.
But who is this new strongman in Dortmund?
Terzic has known the club for years! Between 2010 and 2013 he was already hired by BVB, as a scout and assistant coach of the youth. After that, the former regional league kicker gained experience abroad as an assistant coach for Besiktas Istanbul and West Ham, each under Slaven Bilic (52, now West Bromwich). In 2018 he finally returned to Dortmund, became Favre’s assistant and earned an excellent reputation among the club’s management.
Also because in a way he recalls BVB’s head coach, Jürgen Klopp (53, now Liverpool). Because he likes his football. Fast, dynamic, powerful, aggressive! Y: Terzic can also be loud, exciting, and direct.
Bottom line: Terzic is what Dortmund’s leadership wanted after the Favre era. The sports director confirms: “He has the emotionality that the BVB needs.” In this sense, the Croatian is the counterpart of the calm, leisurely, patience that Favre preaches.
Can Terzic rekindle the BVB fire with his kind? Today there is an initial response in Bremen. (mpe)
