Federer is not on the Monte Carlo entry list
Roger Federer will probably skip the start of the sand season in Monte Carlo. The Swiss, who took a break after his quarter-finals in Doha, is not on the list of entries for the ATP 1000 tournament in the Principality, which kicks off on April 11. Stan Wawrinka, Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medwedew and Rafael Nadal, who are currently on hiatus, should, on the other hand, be at the start. The door is not completely closed for Federer yet – thanks to a wild card, he could still sneak onto the field.
Vögele got stuck at the starting point
Stefanie Vögele has to pack her bags again after the first round of the WTA tournament in St. Petersburg. The false start of the match against Tereza Martincova (CZE / WTA 107) indicated a very quick end. But the Swiss world number 124 caught after 0: 6, booked the first win of the game after half an hour and forced a decisive run. In handling the number 3, the Aargauerin even went ahead with a break before the entire race to catch up was stale. After two and a quarter hours of selfless struggle, it was 6: 0, 4: 6, 6: 4 in favor of Martincova’s deed.
Nadal is also missing in Miami
The injured Rafael Nadal extends his competition break. He will not play in the hard-court tournament in Miami from March 24 to April 4, the 34-year-old announced Tuesday. “I have to make a full recovery and be ready for the clay court season in Europe,” Nadal wrote on Twitter. Due to his back problems, the Spaniard canceled his participation in Rotterdam in early March and also skipped the Dubai tournament this week.
