Things are not going well in the SRF newsroom. In an internal email, the reaction of the national television went to the management ten days ago and requested an analysis to take measures in the face of problematic working conditions. Later it became clear that it was not only the national editorial team that was unhappy with the working environment in the newsroom.
In a public video session of the Reporter Forum Switzerland, the presenter of “Tagesschau” Franz Fischlin (57) commented on the situation, as reported by “persoenlich.com”. The television confirms: “There is great uncertainty in the writing.” Among other things, this is due to the fact that the SRF is also fighting a collapse in advertising revenue. It is likely that the fact that the head of SRF, Natalie Wappler (52), announced layoffs, has increased the uncertainty. Fischlin protects his superiors: the moderator is sure that they will be socially acceptable.
“Broad consensus” on the claims on appeal
Fischlin also confirms, however, that there is “broad consensus on … very objectively formulated internal concerns” in the newsroom. “Too often we feel restricted by decisions made as critical journalists, ignored as committed editors and restricted as hard-working employees,” criticized the national television editorial team in the letter. In writing, this leads to “a feeling of external control and a lack of creative freedom and therefore dissatisfaction.” Bad moods are also the reason for outings, “especially from talented and team-spirited colleagues.”
For Fischlin, this is not a rebellion, but a call: “We demand that we participate in the discussion and can say where we think the weak points are.” Discussions with the editor-in-chief would soon begin. In this context, the television company also regrets that the internal mail was made public: “In this phase something like this must be discussed internally.
