  • Dozens of young people protested in front of the Pinchat School over the dress codes in some Geneva secondary schools.
  • They demand that the “degrading” and “sexist” dress code be lifted.
  • The so-called shame t-shirt (“t-shirt de la honte”), which must be put on if the clothes are inappropriate, causes much anger among young people.

The large oversized white T-shirt falls to the knees and has the words “J’ai une tenue adéquate” (“I am dressed appropriately”). It should be worn if students come to school wearing clothing that is deemed inappropriate.

Legend:

The stumbling block is the great “shirt of shame”, as the students call it, which must be worn if the clothes are not appropriate.

RTS

Garments without belly or shoulders, jackets or shorts where the thighs are visible or with offensive or obscene messages are not suitable.

According to the students, the dress code is sexist. Girls are much more affected by this measure than boys, they complain.

The students wrote a letter to the director of education Anne Emery-Torracinta (SP) asking them to stop this “degrading” practice.
