Snow chains are compulsory at various passes in Graubünden
The start of winter on Friday caused precarious conditions on the roads of Graubünden at the higher elevations. Snow chains have been made mandatory for vehicles in several countries.
The Flüelapass between Davos and the Lower Engadine was closed for security reasons. If he wanted to go through the steps of Julier, Albula and Bernina, he had to mount the snow chains on the vehicle. As usual, four-wheel drive vehicles were exempted from the obligation, as the civil engineering bureau’s roadmap showed on Friday.
Vehicles traveling from Chur to Lenzerheide were also required to carry snow chains. Like many highways at higher elevations, the north-south connection through the San Bernardino tunnel was covered in snow. Waiting time on the Vereina car transporter in northern Engadin to Klosters in Prättigau was three hours on Friday afternoon. (sda)
