The Swiss federal COVID task force continues to fear that the health system will be overloaded and, in its assessment of the situation, calls for measures to be tightened. Among other things, bars and restaurants are close to Switzerland.
Meanwhile, the measures in our neighboring Austria will be tightened today. Chancellor Sebastian Kurz will appear before the public in the afternoon.
The Federal Office of Public Health does not release any new numbers over the weekend. Last Friday, 6739 new cases were reported yesterday, the 7-day average is 20 percent lower than the previous week. You can find the overview of the numbers here.
The SwissCovid app can help break the chains of infection. On Thursday, November 12, around 1,860,000 SwissCovid apps were active.

Task Force: Stronger Measures to Stabilize the Health System
The Swiss Covid Taskforce continues to fear an imminent health system overload. It considers the above measures to be inadequate and, in its latest assessment of the situation, calls for bars and restaurants to be closed across Switzerland, as well as museums and theaters. Concerts should also be avoided entirely. Private contacts should also be limited to two households.
To achieve a stable situation, the number of new daily infections must be reduced to less than 500 in eight weeks, the working group writes in their analysis.

Austria is probably announcing a new adjustment today
The Austrian government is planning to tighten the partial lockdown on the crown crisis that has been in place for almost two weeks. After new infections continued to rise to a record level, Chancellor Sebastian Kurz’s government wants to announce new measures today.
If these are closures of businesses and schools, as the media speculated, it remained open before. Other exit restrictions similar to the strict spring measures are also considered possible.
The so-called partial blockade has been in force in Austria since November 3. The gastronomy, tourism, culture and leisure facilities are mostly closed.

The most important of the night
The Campania and Tuscany region in southern Italy will become red zones, as the Italian government declared in the evening. The most stringent crown measures apply to a total of seven regions in Italy, including strict curfews, for example.
Due to the crown crisis, the French government wants to postpone the regional elections previously planned for March 2021 by three months until the end of June 2021. The corresponding legislative proposal will be presented to parliament in the coming weeks.
Covid-19 is the biggest concern of the Swiss. This shows Sotomo’s new electoral barometer. Climate change will follow immediately after Covid-19.
