Top Swiss Endless Results: Murisier and Odermatt at Ranks 3 and 4

Justin Murisier secures Weltucp’s first podium. Valais finished third in the Alta Badia giant slalom behind Frenchman Alexis Pinturault and Norwegian Atle McGrath.

Marco Odermatt rounded out Switzerland’s solid performance in fourth place. The man from Nidwalden, who had occupied 2nd, 3rd and 1st places in the first three giant slalom of the winter, missed the new podium by three hundredths.

Finally the reward for Murisier

Murisier regained eight places in the second race and eventually achieved his first qualification in the top three at the World Cup, on the slope where he had achieved his best World Cup result three years ago in fourth place. The Valais were rewarded for their perseverance. He suffered a cruciate ligament tear three times alone, and three times he struggled to come back with the constant belief that he could reconnect to the top.

Gino Caviezel and Semyel Bissig ranked 13th together. Caviezel did not live up to his own demands, which had risen after third place in Sölden. Bissig, for his part, who improved 13 places with a second fastest time in the second race, increased his best result in the giant slalom by three places. The Nidwalden man, who only competed in his third giant slalom at the top level, finished 16th in the first of two races at Santa Caterina two weeks ago.

Pinturault leads the World Cup general

Loïc Meillard has to face a disappointment. The Romand missed the second race after a time-consuming mistake at the top of the road like Toggenburg Cédric Noger and Grisons Daniele Sette.

Pinturault claimed his second win of the season after dominating the parallel race at Lech / Zürs. In the previous three giant slaloms of the winter, the Frenchman, who once again took the lead in the overall World Cup standings, finished fifth and twice fourth. McGrath finished in the top three for the first time at the World Cup. The son of former slalom specialist Felix McGrath had previously shown 11th place in the second giant slalom at Santa Caterina as the best value. (ram / sda)
