The Swiss national team’s game against Ukraine on Tuesday night is about to be canceled, according to “Blick.” After another series of tests, the Lucerne canton doctor ordered the entire Ukrainian team to be quarantined.

The Lucerne canton doctor has apparently decided: The entire Ukrainian national team must be quarantined. This is said after another series of tests on Tuesday morning produced four positive cases of corona among Ukrainians. However, they are said to be antibodies found in the blood.

This is reported by “Blick” with reference to a source from the hotel of the Ukrainian team Radisson blu in Lucerne. The Nations League match between Nati and Ukraine is likely to be canceled Tuesday night.

But that is not official yet. The Swiss Football Federation announced in the afternoon that “the ball for the implementation of Switzerland – Ukraine now rests with UEFA.” All four players who were found with antibodies on Tuesday are eligible to play, according to UEFA. If the canton doctor actually quarantined the entire team, refusal would be a done deal.

For Switzerland, the game is of vital importance to stay in the first division of the Nations League. With 1: 0, 2: 1 or a victory with two goals difference, relegation in League A would be assured. It is quite possible that the game will now qualify with a pass victory for Switzerland.

However, it can hardly be assumed that Ukraine would accept a ski pass defeat caused by a decision of a Swiss authority. For example, UEFA could insist on rescheduling the “final” in a neutral country. Or in the end the lot decides whether to be or not to be.
