Swiss lockdown sinners face severe penalties in Germany

Chancellor Angela Merkel and the government of the German federal states decided on Wednesday to clamp down on the further spread of the corona virus. A partial lockdown will be applied in Germany from Monday, November 2.

With many people failing to adhere to the crown’s measures in recent days and weeks, the number of new infections has increased dramatically, the federal government argues. That is why the police presence in neighboring Switzerland is increasing enormously. As the newspaper “Bild” reported on Thursday, thousands of additional police officers are called in to verify compliance with the crown’s protection measures, including on the border with Switzerland.

Controls within a 30 kilometer radius

According to the German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer, controls will be intensified at airports, train stations and on the streets. The search for the veil will be intensified on all German borders within a 30 kilometer radius. This “in order to verify compliance with crown regulations even for those who enter by car from risk areas,” Seehofer said.

Veiled persecution means that the police can control people without suspicion or without a specific reason. It is important to intensify controls for the new crown measures to take effect, argues the Interior Minister.

The 24 hour rule still applies

In Baden-Württemberg, however, the 24-hour rule still applies. It means that travelers who stay in the state for less than 24 hours can stay in Germany without restrictions. From the Swiss point of view, this mainly affects shopping tourists. For Germany as a whole, you can enter without quarantine obligation if you can show a negative corona test that is not older than 48 hours.

It remains to be seen whether the drastic tightening of crown protection measures in Germany will also affect the 24-hour rule in Baden-Württemberg. The partial lock will initially apply until the end of November.
