This is one of the consequences of the weak demand due to the Corona crisis: in winter, Switzerland practically only relies on its Airbus A220 and the three Neos. The A320 and the A321 will be decommissioned, as the airline portal Aerotelegraf writes.
Lufthansa CEO Carsten Spohr (53) announced these drastic measures yesterday. The whole Lufthansa group has to save brutally. It hardens the austerity policy again. And it goes into “hibernation.” One thing is clear: this affects not only Lufthansa, but also its subsidiary Swiss.
Dismantled
Lufthansa’s Swiss subsidiary “will fly the entire short-haul program in the 2020/21 winter flight schedule with the Airbus A220,” as a spokeswoman told “Aerotelegraph”. It mainly uses the two A320 Neo and one A321 Neo.
That has consequences. The previous generation Airbus A320 and A321 (A320 and A321 Ceo) will be “temporarily out of service”, as it is called. What sounds harmless is dramatic. Seen across the Group, the Lufthansa Group will only offer 25 percent of the previous year’s capacity in winter. (pbe)
