As AFC Sunderland announced on its website on December 25, the previous owner, Stewart Donald, and Kyril Louis-Dreyfus, 22, of Zurich, agreed on an acquisition. This should take place in mid-January, as soon as the English Football League (EFL) has approved the deal.
Louis-Dreyfus is the son of the late Robert Louis-Dreyfus and Margarita Louis-Dreyfus, the former owner of Olympique de Marseille, who lives with her current partner, the former president of the National Bank Philipp Hildebrand, among others in Switzerland. According to the business magazine “Forbes”, the Louis-Dreyfus family has assets of more than five billion francs.
Sunderland are currently in the midfield of League One, the third highest league in England. The northeast club of the country gained greater prominence through the Netflix documentary “Sunderland ‘Til I Die”, which highlights the 2017/18 and 2018/19 seasons after the relegation of the Premier League.
