Langenthal cheated on Zug in the Cup – Bern beat Davos
In the round of 16 of the Swiss Cup, SC Langenthal achieved a sensation. Oberaargau pitched National League leaders EV Zug 2-1 in extra time.
SC Langenthal is currently only eighth in the Swiss League, but won the last two games against EVZ Academy (7: 0) and Olten (4: 3). In the past few days, EV Zug edged out the ZSC Lions 6: 3 and 8: 2 and took the lead in the National League.
In Schoren’s empty room, however, there was little difference in classes. Although Zug dominated the game, the Swiss center-back failed again and again because of Langenthal goalkeeper Pascal Caminada.

Until the 45th minute, Zug’s first line-up won 1-0 with a goal from Jan Kovar. Then Dario Kummer faked Hans Pienitz’s long shot to equalize. As a result, the EVZ sped up; fear of embarrassment played a role in the ending. In the 58th minute, the outsider was inches from a sensation for the first time after another deflected far shot.
In extra time, Dario Kummer and Eero Elo created their first chances for Langenthal. 44 seconds before the penalty shoot-out, Marc Kämpf was able to launch himself on goalkeeper Leonardo Genoni. Genoni rejected the first final attempt, but Kämpf took advantage of the rebound until the door of victory. Langenthal achieved a sensation in the Cup four years ago: at that time the Oberaargau team defeated HC Lugano 5-1.
In addition to Langenthal, two other representatives of the Swiss League also participate. As champion, HC Ajoie also won the sixth competitive game of this season. The Jurassic won at Kloten in the duel of the 2017 (Kloten) and 2020 cup champions after a 3: 1 deficit. Visp is also still in the race. The Oberwallis will only complete their last sixteen against Friborg-Gottéron after the quarantine period.
Bern thanks to Startfurioso
In the duels between clubs of the National League, the favorites predominated. With SC Bern, a second club from Bern qualified for the quarterfinals. The Bernese led Davos in the 13th minute by Inti Pestoni and Ted Brithén 2-0; after that there were no more goals.

The guests from Graubünden, who had expelled the SCB from the Swiss Cup after extra time a year ago, could not react. Bern came closer to other goals than Christian Wohlwend’s side, who have yet to find the kick in the championship. Berne goalkeeper Tomi Karhunen reached the second shutout in the 44 hours following a 6-0 win over Biel on Friday.
Biel’s defense is currently less secure. The New Zealanders were left behind early in Lausanne and lost 5-2 due to three more goals in the final leg. Since the 6-0 win over Lausanne at the start of the season, Biel has conceded four or more goals for the sixth time in a row.
Genève-Servette only beat the SCL Tigers 4-2 (after a 1-2 deficit). Ten days ago, Servette had won 8: 1 against Langnau at home. Ambri-Piotta reached the quarterfinals with a 3-2 away win after extra time over the Rapperswil-Jona Lakers. Daniele Grassi scored the winning goal for Leventines in extra time. (dab / sda)
