The strong presence of the locals

After 13 long years, the wait for the giant slalom classic in Chuenisbärgli is over: Marco Odermatt has secured the first Swiss podium since Berthod and Albrecht’s double victory in 2008. Not enough to win, but: “The podium It was after the first race the maximum today. So I am delighted, ”says Odermatt after the race.

Behind them, Justin Murisier in fifth and Loic Meillard in sixth ensure an excellent result for the Swiss team. Especially for the birthday girl Murisier, the first position after a long period of suffering is a great satisfaction: “That I can fight here and it doesn’t hurt, after so many injuries. That is the best gift, ”he says in an interview with SRF.

The outstanding Alexis Pinturault

There is no way to avoid the French on this day. Already in the first race he put a scent mark with the starting number 1, with which the entire competition is dealing. With a one-second lead, Pinturault doesn’t let anything go wrong in race two. With another better time, he went to victory in a superior way, and also won the admiration of Odermatt, third place: “Alexis was in a league of his own today, you saw him in both races.

Therefore, Pinturault is also the clear favorite in Saturday’s second giant slalom race, which is why Odermatt does not value his chances of victory too highly: “That would be a bit of an exaggeration.”
