Financial control criticizes the transparency of the federal prosecutor’s office, this time in hiring.
In its report, the financial control of the SFAO criticized several points of the procurement system of the Federal Prosecutor’s Office: lack of planning, organizational deficiencies, unclear processes, poor time management.
When it comes to acquisitions in the Federal Prosecutor’s Office, it is generally about hiring external consultants or specialists, either in the field of information technology or for legal issues.
And here it is important that financial control knows when the authority is accessing external parties, so this work cannot be done internally, says Brigitte Christ, deputy director of financial control. “We complain that we lack precisely this consideration,” says Christ. So the SFAO could not understand “if the Federal Prosecutor’s Office had these thoughts. That is something we would like to see. “
Localized improvement potential
The procurement law was violated in five of the so-called procurement contracts for a total amount of about 3.6 million francs. Christ emphasizes that these are not systematic errors in the federal prosecution, but that there is room for improvement.
“Things like a binding procurement process, fairness statements, signing regulations – these are things that are very important to us and that need to be implemented,” explains Christ.

“Yes, but …” the Federal Prosecutor’s Office
The federal prosecutor’s office declares in writing that the recommendations can be understood. However, she also writes that the financial control findings could suggest that the Federal Attorney’s Office is not coordinated and makes random purchases. This is not the case. The Federal Prosecutor’s Office knows the relevant requirements, but there is room for improvement in their implementation.
Brigitte Christ from Financial Control is pleased with the response from the Federal Prosecutor’s Office. Some things have already been improved, he says, adding that checks will continue to be carried out so that the remaining deficiencies can be remedied soon.
