SWISS CUP
FCL prevails against Chiasso and is in the quarterfinals of the cup
Only after a 0-1 in the 48th minute, Lucerne woke up in the last group of the Challenge League, FC Chiasso. Then Ibrahima Ndiaye and Louis Schaub led FCL to a 2-1 victory and to the quarter-finals of the cup.
Contrary to what he predicted, FCL coach Fabio Celestini did not fully rely on his team’s best lineup: midfielder Filip Ugrinic and central defender Stefan Knezevic sat on the bench in Chiasso for 90 minutes. For them, Lorik Emini had the opportunity to work in the development center and Marco Burch, who had recovered after a short knee injury, in internal defense. Center forward Dejan Sorgic even got a night off. Pascal Schürpf played in the forward for the goalkeeper.
The Central Switzerland guests battled the bottom of the Challenge League table for the first 45 minutes. Pascal Schürpf, Varol Tasar and Ibrahima Ndiaye from Lucerne only got deals in the early stages. Chiasso goalkeeper Alexandros Safarikas couldn’t beat them.
Awakened by the 0: 1 deficit
Sofian Bahloul had already checked Marius Müller twice in the first half, shortly after the restart the French striker from FC Chiasso scored 1-0 (48th). He benefited from a passing error by Marco Burch and a lost duel by Lorik Emini, which allowed Younes Marzouk to make the precise pass to scorer Bahloul.
But at least Lucerna finally woke up after the deficit: 13 minutes after conceding the goal, Fabio Celestini’s team reacted with the equalizer: substitute Yvan Alounga equalized Ibrahima Ndiaye, who scored to make it 1-1 (61st). Seven minutes later it was Alounga again, who after a good pass from Martin Frydek put it perfectly for the 2-1 from shooter Louis Schaub (68th).
In the 74th minute, Alounga could have capped his resounding performance with a 3-1 goal. But the ex-Aarau only hit the inside post after Frydek’s groundwork. That was almost avenged in the 76th minute, when Bahloul headed just over the goal of FCL goalkeeper Marius Müller.
Probably against FC Lugano in the quarter-finals
With this 2-1 second-round win against Chiasso, the Lucerne team can plan the Cup quarter-finals on April 13 or 14. They should then compete in league competitor FC Lugano, who will probably beat the amateurs from Monthey (2nd inter league).
