The Swiss population is more pessimistic about the development of their personal finances in 2021 than a year ago. The corona pandemic is making its mark. Almost a fifth of adults in Switzerland believe that their financial situation will worsen next year, as a survey by the comparison service Comparis shows. That’s more than ever in the last four years.
A year ago, 33 percent of the Swiss were still convinced that their financial situation would improve in 2020. This hope has been clouded by the crown pandemic. Looking to 2021, it’s only 25 percent. In contrast, 18 percent assume that their financial situation will worsen in the new year. Pessimists cite unsafe work as the reason. About two-thirds of them report working short time, job loss or a lower workload.
At the end of last year, only 13 percent expected their financial situation to deteriorate this year. Of these, one-third cited work-related reasons, while 46 percent cited rising health insurance premiums.
The crown pandemic worries many Swiss
“Because many households have less money due to the corona pandemic and, in particular, because many people insured with the highest premiums do not change insurance, health insurance premiums will place a massive additional burden on many households during next year, “warns Felix Schneuwly, an expert on health insurance companies. Comparison.
More than four in five people are concerned about the current crisis in the crown. That’s significantly more than in the last Comparis survey in May. Especially in French-speaking Switzerland, the population worries about the virus, specifically 92 percent.
Despite the bleak financial outlook, consumer spending remains intact. In March, 42 percent said they would give up major purchases like a car or furniture due to the pandemic, this proportion dropped to 36 percent by the end of 2020. (SDA)
