(sda) Almost a month before the vote, the rejection of the SVP’s limitation initiative intensifies. Approval of fighter jets is increasing. Paternity leave is clearly manifested. The hunting law and the child deduction are on the brink.
At the end of August, 61 percent of the electorate rejected the limitation initiative, as evidenced by the second wave of the poll by the Tamedia newspapers and the free daily “20 Minuten”, which was published on Wednesday. The rejection has risen five percentage points since the first poll in mid-August. In contrast, approval falls four points to 37 percent.
The yes percentage decreased especially among supporters of the CVP and the FDP. It continued to be the lowest in cities at 29 percent, but it also fell in rural areas (44%). There is a “polenta ditch” in some parts of the country. Ticino is more likely to accept the roster with 50 percent.
The acquisition of fighter jets is catching up
When it comes to buying new fighter jets, approval is consolidating compared to the first wave of the survey. By mid-August, the yes ratio was pretty open at 50 percent. Now it is 58 percent.
Among the parties, approval is increasing from left to right; a common phenomenon in military artwork. Meanwhile, approval is increasing everywhere. Meanwhile, there is also an agreement in the three parts of the country.
Paternity leave is clearly manifested
The approval of paternity leave is also very clear in the second wave. About two-thirds of those polled want to vote in favor. The proposal had the support of all party supporters except the SVP. At least 39 percent of SVP voters want to vote in favor.
The template is very popular with those under 35 with an 83 percent approval rating. But also among retirees there is an affirmative participation of 54 percent.
Hunting Law on the Edge of the Abyss
The hunting law is still in a difficult position: after a 53 percent no in the first wave, the opposition is down to 50 percent. 43 percent want to agree, six percentage points more than in the first poll. There are still many undecided.
Yes, the majorities can be found in SVP, CVP and the new FDP. Although the proposal is more popular in rural areas, it does not find a clear majority of 50 percent. In the city, however, the rejection is clear at 57 percent. With 54 percent rejection, women view the law more critically than men. Approval increases with age.
SP change with deduction for child
In the case of direct federal tax deductions for children, the approval drops slightly to 53 percent. 41 percent are against it. There are majorities among the supporters of the SVP, FDP, CVP, Verdes and GLP, but the proportion fell in all these parties.
If in the first wave a 55 percent majority of SP supporters were in favor of the tax deduction, approval now drops to 43 percent and opponents reach 51 percent. The same can be seen with the Greens, where supporters still hit 50 percent after 60. From a 50 percent rejection, SVP supporters also turn 51 percent into the yes field.
The five proposals will go to a federal referendum on September 27. Tamedia and “20 Minuten” had a total of 20,148 people from all over the country surveyed on August 27 and 28, 2020. The range of statistical error for the entire sample was +/- 1.1 percentage points.
