Italian Jannik Sinner (ATP 31) reached the final as the fourth teenager in the history of the ATP 1000 tournament in Miami. The super talent from South Tyrol defeated Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut (ATP 12) in the semifinals with 5: 7, 6: 4, 6: 4.
Only Andre Agassi (18) in 1990, Rafael Nadal (18) in 2005 and Novak Djokovic (19) in 2007 were equally young and successful in Florida.
With the heart of a fighter to victory
In his win over veteran Bautista Agut, Sinner showed his fighting heart. After losing the opening set, he turned it up and secured the second deal.
In the deciding set, Sinner took a break and converted his first match point after 2:28 hours. In the final he will face the Pole Hubert Hurkacz.
From partners to opponents
The two finalists know each other well, as Hurkacz confirmed: “We played doubles together at the Dubai tournament last month. Now we play an ATP 1000 final between us. It’s going to be a fun game. “
The 24-year-old is ranked 37th in the world and had already surprised his co-favorite Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarterfinals. Rotterdam Open winner Rublew had yet to give up a set and only two service games before the semifinals in Miami. Against Hurkacz, the Russian never got into the game and missed in straight sets.
