Thierry Carrel moves from Bern to Zurich. He becomes deputy director of the Cardiac Surgery Clinic of the University Hospital of Zurich. It is directed by Paul Vogt. Vogt was brought to Zurich in the summer after Franceso Maisono, who had made negative headlines for alleged misconduct, had to leave.
Since June it has been known that Carrel is leaving Bern. Thierry Carrel, who is considered a star surgeon, announced at the time that he would be leaving the Inselspital and the University of Bern at the end of January 2021. Carrel worked for 25 years at Inselspital and for 21 years as director of the cardiovascular surgery clinic .
However, Carrel really wanted to switch to Hirslanden’s private hospital group. According to information from June, he should have created a center for improvement and research in cardiac surgery as director. But nothing will come of it now.
As reported by “NZZ am Sonntag”, this transfer to Hirslanden has failed. The fact is confirmed by Carrel’s advisor to the newspaper. The 60-year-old had changed his mind. Details of the deal are still open. His change of mind has to do with the fact that Carrel wants to remain in the academic world. Carrel appears to be starting at Zurich University Hospital in mid-December.
The Hirslanden Group takes note of the decision according to “NZZ am Sonntag” and announces that the training project will still be carried out.
