Surprise in Hinwil – Raikkönen and Giovinazzi stay with Alfa Romeo – Sport

• Alfa Romeo has confirmed the two drivers for the upcoming Formula 1 season.
• Antonio Giovinazzi and Kimi Raikkönen get a new contract for the next season.
• This means that the respected Mick Schumacher cannot find refuge in the cabin of an Alfa Romeo.

Alfa Romeo enters the 2021 season with the same drivers as in the current World Championship. Kimi Raikkönen and Antonio Giovinazzi will each receive a new working document, as the Hinwil racing team announced on Friday. Frédéric Vasseur, team leader: “I am very happy for the whole team that we can continue our work with Kimi and Antonio.”

“Many of the faces that I have met since my Formula 1 debut in 2001 are still here. There is a unique atmosphere here, which gives me additional motivation for my 19th season in Formula 1, ”said Raikkönen on the contract extension. The racing stable has become a second family for him. The 41-year-old Finn is now the rider with the most Grand Prix appearances in history.

Giovinazzi will start his 3rd World Championship with Alfa Romeo. “The team has shown me great confidence and I have tried to compensate with a lot of work,” said the 26-year-old Italian. There are still many things he wants to achieve with Alfa Romeo.

What will happen to Schumacher?

For weeks there was speculation that Michael Schumacher’s son Mick would get a driver’s seat on the Swiss racing team. The 21-year-old German was even able to do some test drives for the Hinwilers. At Alfa Romeo, as a regular driver, the door remains closed for him for at least one season.
