Swiss boss Thomas Klühr will leave the airline’s leadership at the end of the year. He leaves the company after about five years with Swiss and more than 30 years with the Lufthansa Group, to which Swiss belongs.

Klühr had asked the board of directors to release him from his post at the end of 2020, Swiss announced on Tuesday. The Board of Directors accepted this request with the utmost regret, but please respect your private motives and expressly thank you in advance for your excellent services to Swiss. The board of directors wants to decide on his successor in the fourth quarter.

After his resignation, Klühr will take a seat in the newly created Swiss Aviation Foundation. This monitors compliance with the location agreement between the federal government and the Lufthansa Group regarding the development of the center in Zurich.

Corona is not the reason

Switzerland has been hit hard by the crown crisis. During the lockdown, only a few flights were possible and to this day, due to various travel restrictions, it is difficult to increase flight operations. Companies lose around one million Swiss francs every day.

According to the announcement, the crisis in the crown was not the reason for Klühr’s resignation. He had postponed his resignation, which had already been planned for the first quarter of this year, after the crisis began to emerge and confidently maneuvered Switzerland through this difficult time, he said.
