Djokovic suggests support for poorly ranked players in a letter. Federer and Nadal are also there.
Novak Djokovic launched a remarkable campaign as chair of the ATP Council. The Serb, who also has the support of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, presented in an letter an idea of how poorly ranked tennis players can receive financial support in times of the crown pandemic.
According to John Wertheim of TennisChannel Well-ranked players must pay the following amounts based on their ranking in an aid fund:
- 1-5: $ 30,000 each
- 5-10: $ 20,000 each
- 10-20: $ 15,000 each
- 20-50: $ 10,000 each
- 50-100: $ 5000 each
- Top 20 doubles: $ 5000 each
That alone would add up to over a million US dollars. Additionally, ATP and all four Grand Slam tournaments should also participate in the project.
Seat support 250-700
Under the proposal, players between seats 250 and 700 will each receive $ 10,000. Additionally, the “Big Three” proposed that 50 percent of the ATP Finals 2020 prize money, if they can be held, also flow into the fund.
