YB clearly wins main fight against Basel – St. Gallen scores one point against Lugano
The Young Boys have consolidated their leadership position in the Super League. They won the big game in St.-Jakob-Park against Basel thanks to two early goals 2-0. There was no winner between St. Gallen and Lugano.
Basel – YB 0: 2
The Young Boys defended their position in the Super League. In the main game in Basel, the leader achieved a 2-0 success without arguing. The question of whether the first home loss in nearly two years was an accident or perhaps more was clearly answered by the Young Boys. Three days after their poor performance against Servette, the Swiss champions showed that even after three years of dominance, they are still hungry and are number 1 in the Super League.
The first half hour was a show of force. The Bern players were one step faster than Basler across the field. They conquered, combined and cheated in St. Jakob-Park. After this pressure phase, which showed a marked difference in quality, Basler had to be happy to be only 0: 2 behind. FCB goalkeeper Heinz Lindner avoided the worst: Like the referee in the video, referee Sandro Schärer helped correct a penalty for YB.
Lindner had no chance of conceding two goals. The 0: 1 in the 12th minute showed what separated the two teams that night. On the one hand, Eray Cömert and Timm Klose from Basel, who defended hesitantly and awkwardly, on the other, Meschak Elia, who took advantage of the inaccessibility of the two center-backs and uncompromisingly volleyed the ball into the close angle. Eight minutes later, the Bernese surprised the rival with a variant corner kick, which Jean-Pierre Nsame completed with his sixth goal of the season.
Basel, who started their best game with the reference of three wins in a row, had one phase or another of pressure. But control never escaped the teacher, FCB would have had to play longer with the same intensity as in the last minutes. Now Ciriaco Sforza’s team is eight points lost behind YB in the table.

St. Gallen – Lugano 0: 0
St. Gallen and Lugano fought a balanced battle in the fog of eastern Switzerland and at low temperatures. It could have gone 3: 3, but it ended scoreless.
There were plenty of opportunities to hit both sides in the intense game. But either sinning – especially Ticino – at the end or St. Gallen goalkeeper Zigi thwarted the best attempts at the end of Luganesi’s counterattack. Lukas Görtler, despite his knee ligament stretch, and French Youan had the best chances of the eastern Swiss, the Congolese-Swiss Lungoyi was not efficient enough for Ticino.
Without the 18-year-old defense chief Leonidas Stergiou, who had to pass short-term due to nausea and was replaced by Yannis Letard, St. Gallen started out hotly. People from eastern Switzerland pushed, pushed and hit some scoring scenes. Lugano huddled, narrowed the rooms, but used every ball he won for quick counterattacks. These counterattacks were extremely dangerous. Especially Lavanchy, who appeared alone in front of Zigi, and Lungoyi, who only hit the crossbar after an exemplary combination, had two clear chances to score that were lost before the break. St. Gallen was undefeated for the fifth straight game.
