- FC St. Gallen and newly promoted Lausanne parted ways on matchday eight of the Super League with a 2-2 draw.
- Per-Egil Flo (32nd) and Rafik Zekhnini (45th) take care of the break for the guests, Boris Babic (62nd) and Kwadwo Duah (88th) catch up for St. Gallen.
- This means that St. Gallen is still winless for the fifth game in a row.
- Points are also split between Servette and Lugano (1: 1) and between Sion and FC Zurich (2: 2).
Lausanne newcomers can continue to convince in the Super League. Against FC St. Gallen, French-speaking Switzerland reached a 2-2 draw. Lausanne should still suffer the 2 lost points as the guests led 2-0 at halftime and the tie only fell in the 88th minute.
Cold-blooded residents of Lausanne
FC St. Gallen did everything they could from the start to end their 4-game winless streak. The eastern Swiss made an offensive effort in the first half, but failed to beat Lausanne’s defense.
Giorgio Contini’s team, meanwhile, showed the locals how cold blood works:
- 32. Minute: Flo sneaks to the left edge of the penalty area, receives a pass from the center, has plenty of room and shoots immediately. FCSG goalkeeper Lawrence Ati Zigi does not look very good when he concedes.
- 45. Minute: Exactly 8 seconds after a goal kick from Lausanne goalkeeper Mory Diaw, the ball twists into the opponent’s goal. Zekhnini won the long shot, hissing past FCSG defender and captain Vincent Rüfli, and caught Zigi in the near corner.
Babic’s reaction
After the break, FC St. Gallen took over the reins, but were cautious at first. Peter Zeidler’s team loudly demanded a hands-on penalty in the 59th minute, which was not awarded. In the 62nd minute, Babic perked up and struck the ball from 20 meters past the perplexed goalkeeper Diaw into the net – FCSG’s morale was brought to life with the subsequent goal.
In the later stages, thanks to Tim Staubli (75th), Babic (80th), Duah (81st), Betim Fazliji (83rd) and Florian Kamberi (85th), the hosts had scoring opportunities almost every minute. They were omnipresent in the opposite half, but they lacked the necessary efficiency. It was only in the 88th minute that Duah managed to equalize. The 23-year-old caught a cross from Tim Staubli first and directed the ball past goalkeeper Diaw.
Just two minutes later, this duah nearly scored the winning goal. Diaw, however, took a long time and saved his team from a draw.
Contini’s incredible streak continues
Meanwhile, an impressive series continues for Lausanne coach Contini. The Swiss from eastern Switzerland always scored at least one point in the 12th consecutive game against Green / White (7 wins, 5 draws). Before joining Lausanne, he had done so in 11 games with Vaduz. Contini said in an interview this week that he had had “the best moment as a footballer” at FCSG.
