- Basel wins again after 7 competitive matches without winning.
- FCB celebrate too high a 4-1 home win in the Super League against Lucerna.
- Thousands of Basel fans cause a stir in front of the “Joggeli”.
- In the second game of the night, FC Zurich and Lausanne-Sport split 1: 1.
Sports almost took a back seat that night. Rather, the presence of the thousands of Basel fans in front of St. Jakob-Park made headlines. They protested the discussions about the future ownership of the club.
Basel and Lucerne, however, showed a respectable game with plenty of chances on both sides. Lucerne’s strong form under coach Fabio Celestini faced Basler for the full 90 minutes, but it wasn’t enough for the FCL to earn a point.
Excellent Basel morale
After Lucerne tied in the 55th minute for the ubiquitous Louis Schaub, the game seemed to turn upside down for the guests. But Basel resisted and was able to thank goalkeeper Heinz Lindner, who avoided the deficit with great saves.
After that, FC Basel proved efficient: after veteran Fabian Frei set the course for victory in the 74th minute, the recently criticized Edon Zhegrova (88th) and young Adrian Durrer (95th) rose to 4 : 1.
Basel returns to 2nd place
With all three against the FCL, the “Bebbi” regained second place in the table – Servette can take the lead again with a win against Sion on Sunday. Lucerne would have jumped to second place with a win, but could drop to eighth place on Sunday due to the loss against FCB.
Lucerne will face FC Sion at home next Sunday. FC Basel will continue against Lugano on Saturday.
