Mauro Caviezel confirms his current form and is second in the Val Gardena Super-G, Aleksander Aamodt Kilde wins.

The podium

  • 1. Aleksander Aamodt Kilde (NOR) 1: 26,29
  • 2. Mauro Caviezel (SUI) + 0.12
  • 3. Kjetil Jansrud (NOR) + 0.21

Mauro Caviezel continues riding the wave of success. After his victory in the 1st Super-G of the season in Val d’Isère, the Graubünden rider finished second in Val Gardena, thus maintaining the lead in the Super-G classification. Not even a broken index finger, which he suffered on the descent last weekend, bothered Caviezel.

The discipline leader got off to a strong start with one hand that was bandaged two and three times. Only at the bottom did he lose some time. At the end he was still 22 hundredths ahead of Matthias Mayer (AUT), who had been leading up to that point.

This time lasted until Aleksander Aamodt Kilde (NOR) drove. The 28-year-old snatched 12 hundredths from Caviezel in the finale and celebrated his first win of the season. So 7 of the last 9 Super G victories in Val Gardena were for Norway. Kjetil Jansrud completed the Norwegian team’s solid result with his third place finish.

The other Swiss in points

  • 9. Marco Odermatt + 0.98
  • 10. Defeat Feuz + 1.05
  • 11. Urs Kryenbühl + 1.13
  • 28. Niels Hintermann + 1.89
  • 28. Stefan ROGENT + 1.89

Beat Feuz started the race as third and lost time, especially in the second part of the tour. Nine years after his first Super-G victory in Val Gardena, the Bernese finished the race in tenth place, just like a week ago in Val d’Isère, Marco Odermatt was one place ahead. The Nidwalden man lost 98 hundredths with Kilde’s fastest time. Urs Kryenbühl narrowly missed the top 10 with 11th place. For Schwyzer, it is the best Super G ranking of his career.

Difficult visibility conditions

Despite the sun and almost no clouds in the sky, especially drivers with lower start numbers encountered difficult visibility conditions in South Tyrol. In addition, there was the frequent alternation of sunny and shady passages. So the bumps on the slope were hard to see.

So it goes

There is currently no recovery time for men. The descent is scheduled in Val Gardena on Saturday. Last year, the race at Saslong had to be canceled due to heavy snowfall. This year you’ll be there live from 11:45 am on SRF Zwei and on the SRF Sport app.
