Ryan Cochran-Siegle wins the Bormio Super-G. For once, no Swiss made the podium. Mauro Caviezel is the best 5 Swiss.
The podium
- 1. Ryan Cochran-Siegle (United States) 1: 29.43
- 2. Vincent Kriechmayr (AUT) +0.79
- 3. Adrian Smiseth Sejersted (NOR) +0.94
It was a brilliant performance that Ryan Cochran-Siegle conjured in the snow at the “Stelvio Track” in Bormio. The 28-year-old American, who took the podium for the first time in Val Gardena, lost at least 6-tenths of the overall competition in the second sector and even managed to carve out a bit of margin in the last stage. For Cochran-Siegle it is the first victory of the World Cup, and he won it in a superior way.
Behind the unleashed winner, Austrian Vincent Kriechmayr took the podium for the first time this season. Adrian Smiseth Sejersted confirmed his place on the podium at Val d’Isère as third.
Swiss
- 5. Mauro Caviezel +1.36
- 8. Urs Kryenbühl +1.48
- 9. Marco Odermatt +1.50
- 11. Gino Caviezel +1.76
- 13. Loïc Meillard +1.81
Mauro Caviezel failed to build on his outstanding start to the season in Super-G (first in Val d’Isère and second in Val Gardena), but Grisons finished a Super-G in fifth for the tenth consecutive Top 5 time.
Urs Kryenbühl and Marco Odermatt finished in the top 10, Gino Caviezel and Loïc Meillard completed the good Swiss result.
The other swiss
- 22. Stefan ROGENT +2.25
- 33. Defeat Feuz +3.00
- Eliminated: Ralph Weber
Beat Feuz did not start at all. The 33-year-old veteran did not approach his performance limit and, 3 seconds behind, he missed the World Cup points for the first time since Kvitfjell 2014, when he crossed the finish line.
Near perfect conditions
After Monday’s race could not take place due to snowfall, the drivers found ideal conditions on the second attempt. The organizers cleared fresh snow from the trail and the slope in Bormio was grainy as usual.
