Successful Christmas surprise for stranded truckers – Lebern-Bucheggberg-Wasseramt – Solothurn

Trucks are not allowed to drive during the Christmas holidays. Since December 27 is a Sunday, it means three days off for drivers in Switzerland. In addition, gas station stores are closed on Sundays and holidays by order of the Federal Council.

Reason enough to get active, Chrigu Loose of Recherswil thought. As he told the regional station Tele M1, he had to think about the drivers in the warm room of his house. Without further ado, he launched a call to share on Facebook. “I think it’s crazy how we live in abundance,” says Loose, “and others just have nothing or just a part.”

Then about thirty people showed up to serve him a celebratory meal at the Deitingen and Gunzgen motorway service stations. “Everything freshly prepared”, as one of the helpers explains. This morning he processed about five kilos of potatoes for gratin.

Even if communication with stranded truckers around the world is sometimes difficult, dinner at the rest stop is apparently well received. In addition to the food, there were also clothes for the twenty or so drivers, which Chrigu Loose and her team were able to accommodate.
