Atlético de Madrid announced the signing of Uruguayan forward Luis Suárez from FC Barcelona on Wednesday night. The transfer was not problematic at all.
Recently, observers had assumed that Suarez would trade Italian series champion Juventus Turin. However, irregularities were found around the forward’s Italian language test. The language test is a prerequisite for obtaining Italian citizenship. Suárez had probably tried to get it because of the option to move to Juventus in Turin, as the Serie A club had already given up its two spots to non-EU foreigners.
So now the change continues within Spain. According to information from Barcelona, the transfer rate for the 33-year-old Suárez is six million euros. Suárez, who has a particularly friendly relationship with Lionel Messi, no longer played a major role in the plans of new Barça coach Ronald Koeman. Recently, other well-known players Arturo Vidal and Ivan Rakitic have also left FC Barcelona.
As reported by the “Marca”, Suárez’s departure at Barça was a muddy battle despite his successful stage with the Catalans. But the forward, who came to Barça from Liverpool in 2014, then lobbied and threatened to give a press conference in which he would ridicule Bartomeu. An agreement was finally reached on Tuesday night.
