British student Joseph Flavill, 19, was fit and healthy. He loved hockey and wanted to travel for a year after graduating from high school. But then everything turned out differently. On March 1, 2020, he was hit by a car in the town of Burton, around three weeks before the first UK shutdown.
Flavill suffered severe brain injuries and was in a coma for 11 months. Now he has woken up. Now his family has to explain the chaos in the world. “It’s almost like he slept through the entire pandemic,” his aunt told the online portal “Staffordshire Live”.
Twice infected with Corona
Flavill spent the first time after the accident at Leicester General Hospital. After four months, he was transferred to a neurological care center for rehabilitation. Although Flavill did not notice anything about the virus during the coma, he was infected with it twice during this time.
However, his health has gradually improved. Her aunt says she has made amazing progress in recent weeks and now she even blinks and smiles. You can also raise your legs if you are instructed to do so. But due to the ongoing pandemic, there is currently no physical therapy for the young man.
“Unbelievably difficult for his mother”
Joseph is now reacting to his friends and family again. However, due to the pandemic, they can only communicate with him via Facetime. His mother was only allowed to visit him once, when he was 19 years old.
“It’s incredibly hard for his mother not to see him,” says his aunt. (support)
