(Motorsport-Total.com) – Lance Stroll had a nasty surprise in the second practice session at Portimao when he turned at Turn 1 and suddenly there was an accident. Max Verstappen was next to the Racing Point driver, so the two made contact. The race stewards did not penalize for not wanting to blame anyone else.

“I don’t think I was expecting me to be on a second push lap and I wasn’t expecting anyone to be next to me at Turn 1,” Stroll said, explaining the incident from his point of view. Verstappen had let Stroll pass before the last corner and then stopped next to him at the beginning and end.
“But I was hoping it would leave a hole,” said the Canadian. “I was busy looking at some things on my dash. When I looked up again, I was focused on the corner and I wasn’t expecting anyone to be next to me.”

Everything is fine,” said Stroll, whose training ended after the collision.
So on Friday he finished only 19th and penultimate three seconds behind. “It was a difficult day,” he sums up and especially struggles with the lack of grip. “Everyone had problems. We have to have some ideas tonight to improve the balance.”
