According to the Basel-Stadt canton prosecutor, the incident occurred around 3 am at the Riehenring. The 30-year-old was traveling with a colleague.

Two unknown men, who were in a parked car, violently beat the 30-year-old after a verbal dispute, causing him to fall to the ground. Then they kicked him. The 30-year-old’s partner tried in vain to protect his colleague. The victim remained unconscious on the road.

The perpetrators fled in a car down Feldbergstrasse in the direction of Klybeckstrasse. A motorist alerted police and a local resident provided first aid. Paramedics from the Basel-Stadt rescue took the unconscious victim to an emergency. He then had to be transferred to the intensive care unit, as Peter Gill, a media spokesman for the Basel prosecutor, said upon request.

The immediate search for the perpetrators was unsuccessful. The police called witnesses.
