Around three dozen young people can travel to Switzerland before the end of the year. Some of them already have relatives here.

Switzerland will accept around three dozen unaccompanied minor refugees from Greece before the end of the year. 14 of them have family ties in Switzerland. The rest lived in the burning camp of Moria on Lesbos.

This arises from the written response of the Federal Council to a question from the National Councilor Isabelle Pasquier (Verdes / GE). In view of the precarious situation in Greece, Switzerland has taken in 54 children and young people with connections to Switzerland from Greece since the beginning of the year.

German Initiative

The Federal Council had previously announced that it would take in some 20 children and young people from the burned-out Moria camp on the island of Lesbos, regardless of family connections. I was responding to a request from Germany.

The EU, under the Presidency of the German Council, began in September to organize the evacuation of around 400 unaccompanied children and young people to other European countries.

Trips are currently being prepared for the approximately three dozen children and young people who will travel from Greece to Switzerland in the coming weeks. The transfer is scheduled before the end of the year.
