On Saturday, the first of two women’s Super-Gs will be on the show at St. Moritz. Almost nothing stands in the way of Corinne Suter’s premiere.

Travel restrictions, quarantine obligations, ski bans, “bubbles” – the crown situation remains tricky even before the women’s sprint start on Saturday in St. Moritz. However, Corinne Suter is very excited to have one of her favorite disciplines kick off this weekend: “I can’t wait. During training, everything turned out as I had imagined. I feel good and want to pick up where I left off, ”says Schwyzerin.

Suter had stopped a good 9 months ago with 2 small crystal balls in his arms. For the first time since Michela Figini in 1988, a Swiss woman managed to gain “twice the speed”.

Still no podium in St. Moritz

It is understandable that Suter would like to build on the previous season’s performance. In 2019/20 he achieved a total of 7 podiums and celebrated 2 World Cup victories. The 26-year-old achieved 2 of the top 7 spots in his homeland. However, not in St. Moritz, but in Crans-Montana.

In Corviglia, Suter has yet to reach the podium at the World Cup. Sixth in the Super-G from a year ago is the best result for the Schwyzerin at St. Moritz. However, Suter always enjoys coming to Engadin: “St. Moritz is one of my favorite places, I like everything here: the slopes, the town, the people ”, he explains. Suter also participated in his first sprint race at the European Cup in St. Moritz.

Does the weather interfere?

The chances are high that Suter will be on the podium for the first time this year at St. Moritz. The self-confidence in the 26-year-old is great after the great successes of the last two seasons, the doubts are gone. “If I can make a reasonably good trip, I’ll be up front,” Suter says.

The biggest concern for Suter and all the other athletes currently is the forecast of bad weather in St. Moritz. Heavy snowfall in the Engadine has made it difficult to prepare the slopes for days. Martin Berthod was hopeful on Friday: “We were told that the fresh snow on Saturday morning would be limited and that we could have a window of time to celebrate the race,” said the chairman of the organizing committee for the races in St. Moritz.
