During construction work in Athens, the head of an ancient statue of the Greek messenger of the gods Hermes was found. As announced on Sunday by the Ministry of Culture, the marble head dates from the late 4th or early 3rd century BC.

The well-preserved object was found during excavation work to modernize the sewage system just 1.3 meters below the pavement of a busy street.

The ministry did not initially provide any information on the value of the find. On Saturday, the mayor of Athens, Kostas Bakoiannis, posted a picture of the head on the online network Facebook. “Unique Athens,” he wrote below. The head represents Hermes at an advanced age.

Hermes sculptures were often placed as symbols at road junctions in ancient Greece. The head or torso of the Greek god was placed on a square column. In Greek mythology, Hermes is the son of the father god Zeus and a winged messenger, making him the patron saint of travelers and merchants. (sda / afp)

In Germany, refugees weren’t even welcome when they were German

Anyone who thinks that xenophobia requires people from foreign countries is wrong. After the lost war, millions of refugees and displaced people from the eastern regions of Germany flocked to the rest of Germany. The anger of the people is boiling over and the speaker knows exactly what people want to hear: “Refugees have to be thrown out and farmers have to actively help,” shouts Jakob Fischbacher *. The district director of the Bavarian Farmers Association adds fuel to the fire and even uses the Nazi word “blood shame” in his mouth.

What sounds like Saxony in 2016 is Bavaria in 1947. And the refugees Fischbacher wants to expel do not come from Syria …
