Thanks to Corona, the Italian authorities established new requirements for crossing the border by public transport. Measures SBB and its partners cannot comply with. Therefore, it was decided to interrupt the cross-border rail connection between Switzerland and Italy from Thursday, for an indefinite period.

But all went well on Thursday night: as SBB wrote in a press release, a solution could be found.
The federal president makes it possible
As of Sunday, December 13, the trains will run again without restrictions. This will be possible after the talks that Federal President Simonetta Sommaruga (60) had with the Italian Transport Minister.
Thanks to the intervention of the two transport ministers, a solution had already been found on Wednesday night. In long-distance traffic, two trains will each run on the Gotthard and Simplon Railway until further notice, according to the press release. (support)
